When it comes to hunting experiences, experts go hunting at night rather than daytime.

The reason is that wild animals leave the forest at midnight in search of prey. But at night, it is a very difficult task to hunt animals just by firearms.

Even with night vision devices, capturing the target in pitch darkness was more challenging.

Thermal monoculars were introduced in the early 2000s to overcome this difficulty.

By using these thermal monoculars, not only can wild animals be hunted, but people can also effectively control the rogue animals that invade their farm fields.

Furthermore, thermal monoculars are extensively used in satellite imaging, surveillance, military, weather reporting, energy analysis, rescue missions, and search operations.

Here I’ve reviewed the Global Vision Protector TM Thermal Imaging Monocular designed by AGM.

Let’s move on to the review.

Construction

The AGM Protector TM is designed with aircraft aluminum alloy materials to produce technologically developed thermal imaging monocular which is currently available in the market.

With the durable material construction, it’s equipped with magnesium alloy housing to ensure the protection of the device.

The rugged body, tough housing, and premium-grade optics make the entire unit as a lightweight and compact one.

Though the monocular system is ultra-lightweight, each component of the device is sturdy and durable.

You don’t worry about the damages caused by weather and terrain conditions, because this thermal monocular comes with waterproof, impact-proof, and dustproof features with its materials.

Thermal Sensor

The Protector TM thermal monocular is configured with Tau 2 type thermal core sensor that has the 17-micrometer pixel pitch.

This type of thermal core is engineered by the popular brand FLIR and it has the thermal resolution of 336×256 pixels.

There is a control panel fitted into the top of the device, thus you can easily control the whole unit without any complications.

A diaper is included with the thermal monocular with the adjustable range from -5 to +5 dpt.

Optical System

In general, all the thermal imaging monocular produced by AGM are designed with the objective lens system of F/1.0.

The Protector TM Thermal Imaging Monocular is also configured with the F/1.0 lens system but offers three different lens diameters to enhance the experience of your hunting: 25mm, 50mm, and 75mm.

If the user wishes to target the object near to him, then he can use a 25mm lens, because 25mm is generally used for short-range targeting.

Or the user can utilize a 50mm medium-range lens to detect the target in the viewable distance.

Here is the 75mm long-range lens with this you can detect the target even in pitch darkness, which means this long-range targeting is worth for all your tactical purposes.

Magnification & Focus

Surprisingly the AGM Global Vision Protector TM Thermal Imaging Monocular comes with a variety of magnification range as 3.45x, 5.2X, and 1.7X.

Along with that, it comes with four different digital zooming options thus you can gradually increase the range from 1X to 2X to 4X to 8X.

With these magnification and digital zooming aspects, you can view the target closer.

On the other side of optical features, the thermal imaging monocular is designed to provide the focusing range from 5m to infinity.

You can avoid the blurred images of fast-moving objects when you targeting it at night hunting with the aid of a focus-free feature.

Image Processing

AGM Global Vision Protector TM Thermal Imaging Monocular utilizes 60 Hz of refresh rate and 15.0° x 11.2° of FOV (Field of View) to deliver high-resolution images and videos.

These features offer a wider range of viewing particularly in night hunting and permit the user to catch the target in any peripheral conditions.

To deliver a great detection, this Protector thermal monocular is equipped with FLIR Tau 2 336 x 256 Uncooled VOx Microbolometer detector has a value of 17 microns.

One of the stunning features of this Protector TM Thermal Imaging Monocular is its thermal imaging palettes.

This thermal device consists of 13 different thermal color palettes with itself: Black Hot, White Hot, Rainbow, Fusion, Globow, Ironbow1, Sepia, Ironbow2, Color1, Color2, OEM, Rain, and Ice-Fire.

Output

The monocular consists of an HD display with a high resolution of 800×600 pixels.

Using this display, you can be enjoying the experience of your adventure and it’s greatly beneficial to notice your mistake and hits in the filed of use.

The HD videos are flawlessly captured by Protector TM Thermal Imaging Monocular. These are offered as PAL with 68×574 pixels resolution and NTSC with 640×480 pixels resolution.

Smart User Interface

You need a smart interface to charge the device from the external power source. For this reason, AGM offers an S620 Connector for interfacing with other devices for distinct purposes such as Analog Video In/Out, Power In, Digital Video Recorder.

And it allows the user to power up the thermal monocular with dual optional, which are CR123A and CR123 type rechargeable batteries.

You can use two 3V CR123A type lithium-ion batteries or two 3.0V to 3.7V CR123 type batteries.

Annalena is carrying her rifle with passion and pride for her love of the outdoors and the experience of hunting. Her most memorable hunting season was back in 2015 when she and her dad were drawn for special elk tags. That allowed them the chance to fill their tags with an actual bull elk rather than a spike. That year both her and her dad came home with their first trophy elks, with hers a 6 by 6 pointer and her dad’s a 6 by 5.
